The boys soccer team hoped to return to the field after Spring Break and make their way to playoffs after earning their second place spot in district. With COVID – 19s “Stay at Home” order there was only one safe thing to do which was to cancel playoffs and leaving the team’s seniors disappointed.

With determination to end the night well Avelino Gutierrez, senior, keeps his eye on the ball to kick it across the field to one of his other teammates. “I had a whole zoo in my stomach before the game, but right when the whistle blew, I knew that it all has to go away so that I could play well. When I step on the soccer field everything on my mind goes away and all that’s left is the fact that I get to play such a beautiful sport with one of my closest friends, and my family and friends get to come and support and it’s just an amazing environment,” Gutierrez said.

With the excitement of their win at the first home game Marco Rodriguez, senior, and the team have high hopes for the season. “Opening the season with a win is essential for any team as confidence grows within the group, but with a home win it’s always special since we show how strong we are when playing at home. I’m delighted for the win and for the way the group showed composure throughout the game. The way the team played pre-season and started district means that we have the potential to achieve big things. We focus each game at a time, but we do have our season goals, which include winning district and surpassing second round in playoffs. If we keep working hard and we keep our focus, I believe we can achieve both,” Rodriguez said.
