Imagine this, you get on your phone and you seem to have notifications. It may look as if you were to get others to come across you for good reasons, right? Well no, it’s actually some people reposting a negative post about you that so-called, “friends” posted
“Well obviously I was a little hurt when I saw the post. I reported it to the school, but I don’t think they did anything, so I decided to move on from it, I moved schools¨ said Victoria.
Victoria Cisneros, a sophomore here at Jersey Village High School dealt with cyberbullying a couple of months ago. Victoria had previously gone to a charter school. She had attended the school for four years, so her life was pretty settled in and she was friends with the closest people she thought she would ever meet. Victoria had suspected that something would happen, and by April of 2024, things started rambling up.
”I knew something was gonna happen at one point, but I wasn’t expecting it to be that serious. I was at my sister’s house and my heart dropped. I was trying to pretend that nothing was wrong, then I started crying¨ said Victoria.
When Victoria first saw that her supposed “friends” had reposted the rude post about her, she felt very upset. The only thing she could think of doing at the time being was telling the school. She didn’t feel as if the school did much to help though and her old old friends started to spread rumors. To which Victoria couldn’t deal with it any longer. This event’s effect was impactful on her and changed Victoria’s trust with others.
“It really changed my perspective on things, and on how people treated me and even people who you think are your closest friends are actually not¨ said Victoria.
Victoria, who was personal close friends with her main friend group ended up getting stabbed in the back by most of them. Cyberbullying can be damaging to anybody and can change the way people view others, especially if it comes from someone they may know, or when getting sent multiple negative comments on your page. This can develop trust issues within the person, and make them not freely express themselves with whomever.
“Nowadays I don’t have a lot of friends, mainly the people who are close to me. I feel most comfortable with people I feel like aren’t gonna judge me for what I do. I make sure I try to see their true intentions” said Victoria.
Cyberbullying can be a really impactful thing for others, it tends to happen a lot through social media and you may or may not have realized yet. This could happen at any time, to anyone, which can be really impactful or not, depending on how wide the rumors are spread to others. But even if word isn’t spreading that far along, it can have a heavy influence on others mental health.
After the cyberbullying situation, when moving to Jersey Village High school and beginning a fresh new start, Victoria chose to be more careful with whoever she hangs around with. From this others can learn too, to be careful when choosing friends and if you can open up to those around you.
