Karyss Ava Brock has been dancing outside of school from the year 2018 to now in 2024.
“This is my seventh year, I think I was nine when I started,” said Karyss.
She had a few difficulties throughout the time she spent there such as combining the classes with a new teacher she hadn’t danced with before.
“I wasn’t a fan when they told us that because our company group was too small, they were smashing us in with a new teacher.” Karyss said.
Karyss had to quit a dance class due to a difficulty she continually faced with being put in classes with people two or three years younger than her.
“It makes it difficult because they all know each other and I know them too but they have a lot more energy and struggle to sit still and focus on what the coach is telling us to do.” said Karyss.
The dancer says she debated even continuing to dance this year due to a teacher she had previously danced with and the constant switching around of classes.
“Honestly this year I was not sure if I wanted to do it because of the new teachers, cause I’ve danced with the same one 6 years prior and then they’re moving us all around because they dont have enough dancers.” Karyss said.
Karyss pushes on saying that she’ll likely continue dancing through these problems until college and possibly even a year after.
“The studio mat right now you can dance until senior year, unless you want to continue doing it into college.” Said Karyss.
Even after all her experience in dance she doesn’t see herself ever pursuing a career in dance, rather taking a different approach.
“No, If I were to, It’d be more of a side career and I’d be somewhat like my dance teacher where she teaches one half then she teaches the other.” Said Karyss.
