Why art? Art gives us meaning and helps us understand our world. It tells a story about someone, just like Stephanie Avila.
Stephanie’s self expressions and creativity build confidence, as well as individual identity.
“I guess in a way it impacted me with friendship and stuff” Stephanie Avila, a sophomore at Jersey Village High School said, “I mean, I mainly got into art because of a friend, so in a way it also helped build that bond we had.”
Stephanie has found art to be a good way to express herself and show her creativity. She is allowed to reflect and recognize herself through art, also allowing others to learn her ways of dealing with art.
“I’d say the people around me” says Stephanie “and the things I like to watch and stuff.”
Stephanie seems to say how this impacts her and her art. This moment lit up in her, as she began to explore her own creative ways. Through art, Stephanie discovered her emotions and feelings.
As Stephanie continues to do art, she also reflects in her journey. Her story can show how art can empower individuals by offering pathways to self-discovery and healing.
“Art has changed my life, it’s more than a hobby to me,” Stephanie said.
Sometimes, there’s always another side to art.
“Art allows me to communicate in ways that sometimes words can’t. It can be a safe space to get through difficult times and experiences, “says Stephanie.
“Art saved me”, says Stephanie,” it gave me a way of healing when I felt silenced.”
