Many freshman athletes are getting ready for the 2023- 2024 Winter/Spring sport season in November. This is their first year in highschool sports and all of JV is excited to see what they bring on the court and on the field.
¨During the summer I woke up around 3 times a day. I’d run 3 miles a day and also go to multiple different trainings,” Junior varsity basketball player Xavier Williams, 9, said.
Williams said he thought it was important to prepare so intensely because he wanted to remain in shape for competition.
¨[If] not you’re gonna be off rhythm and other people will be putting more work in than you,” Williams said and is hoping the team makes it to the playoffs.
Jessica Guzman, 9, who plays for the Girl’s Freshman team said she prepared with her teammates as well over the summer.
¨It’s important to prepare for the season because it allows you to work on your flaws to further benefit your game¨ Guzman said, “[we worked] on team bonding, training the fundamentals of basketball, and beginning to do specific plays.”
Guzman believes they have a very strong team and can see them performing well this season.
Tennis player Charlize Ngyuen, 9, also told The Peregrine that she is getting ready for the Tournament season in January.
“I’m working on improving my technique and being the best player I can be on the court. I am also working on having a better and positive mindset, because without that, in my opinion, you cannot play to your full potential with a negative mindset,” Ngyuen said.
Preparing for this season was very important to her¨ I think it’s important to prepare because I still get nervous here and there and that can affect how I am on the court sometimes. I plan to play my best this season and hope to show the work I’ve been putting in was worth it. Preparing for this season is important to me because to me you will never get better if you don’t keep working.¨ Ngyuen said.
Charlize sees this season moving in a positive direction.¨Since this is my first highschool spring season I’m excited to see how things are. As I’ve got to get to know my teammates I learned how welcoming they are. I’m excited to play with them and have the best first season I can.¨ Ngyuen said.

This season for her she tries to look for the best in things ¨I see this season being really successful.¨ Leon mentioned.
